TREASURER’S
REPORT
Mayor
Glover reported a current balance of $1,806.62 as of
February 28, 2005

Mayor Glover moved to approve the Treasurer's
Report. Mayor Thomas
seconded motion and it carried unanimously.

Glover updated the Board about the Social Security Number bill.

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REPORTS
FROM CITIES:
Cinco
Bayou – Mayor Frucci had nothing to report.
Crestview
– Councilwoman Bush was not in attendance.
Destin
– Mayor Barker was not in attendance.
Eglin
Air Force Base –

Last Friday Retired Col. Ed Hubbard visited the base.
Col. Hubbard was a POW and he visited on the 32nd
Anniversary of his release.

March 17 is the Mayor’s Breakfast
·
March 18 is the Annual Women’s History Month Luncheon
·
March 24, Team Eglin will hold its Annual Awards
·
March 31 is “Bring your daughter to work” day
·
April 9-19 the base will be participating in an Operational
Readiness Inspection (ORI).
·
May 30 will be the 20th annual Memorial Day Gate to Gate
Run
Fort Walton Beach
·
Municipal elections will be held on March 8th for Mayor
and three Council seats.
·
The City of
FWB
participated
in Northwest Florida Legislative Day in
Tallahassee
on February
23rd.
·
A number of capital improvement projects are underway, including a
sidewalk for a portion of
Jet Drive
and water
line replacements on
Katherine Place
.
·
Of the City’s total $5.0 million for estimated damages and debris
removal from Hurricane Ivan, $2.2 million in reimbursement has
been received from FEMA.

The City of
Fort Walton Beach
has been
designated a Tree City
USA
by The
National Arbor Day Foundation.

The Uniform Crime Report for 2004 recently published by the FDLE
showed a 6.8% reduction in the seven index crimes for the City
of
Fort Walton
Beach
.

March 29 is the Florida League of Cities Reception and March 30
there is a breakfast and legislative lobbying.
Hurlburt
Field –
Martin Luther
King Blvd.
has been
backed up due to a road repair on the base.
The old gate was reopened to aid in the traffic flow.
Laurel
Hill – The City has been quiet.
Mary
Esther – The Cash’s
and Hunan II property has been sold and a 4-story tall building
(bottom floor will have 2 restaurants) with 3 stories of condos
in an almost ‘U’ configuration will be built there.
Other than that, it’s been quiet.
Niceville
– Niceville is gearing up for our 18th Annual Egg Dash
Saturday March 26. We
expect some 500 or 600 children in four age groups from
toddlers to age 8 to scoop up 10,000 eggs and various
prizes. Major prizes will be awarded for special prize
eggs. It takes us about two months to get the eggs
and prizes ready and the kids scoop them all up in about 5
minutes. We do it on our four baseball fields. We
will probably have about 1000 parents, grandparent and friends
in attendance.
Okaloosa County
–

The County is busy working on the budget.
Other than that it’s relatively quiet
·
Racetrack Road is being repaved
Shalimar
·
Mayor Combs is out of the country
·
The hotel should be getting started any day now
·
The town’s Police Commissioner, Rik Larson, passed away on
February 22. His
funeral was on February 28 with a reception for the family at
the town hall afterwards
Valparaiso
–
·
The city is continuing with its road repaving.
·
A house bill has been submitted to disallow municipalities that
offer cable service to add any new services or take on new
customers after a specified date.
·
The new chamber wasn’t available for the last meeting but should
be ready in April.
