CALL TO ORDER

President, Mayor Mike Anderson , called the meeting to order at 12:01 p.m. at Two Trees Restaurant in Fort Walton Beach .

 

PRESENT BOARD MEMBERS

MINUTES - Mayor Barker moved to approve the minutes of the June 5, 2006 meeting as written.  Councilmember Miller seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.  Mayor Anderson noted that the Eglin bypass resolution will be submitted at the August Meeting.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  $2029.48 after paying $108.52 for the June 5, 2006 lunches. 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

-  BRAC Committee Task Force Representative/Vision 2015 Military-Community Partnership update

-  New Quarterly Dinner Meeting schedule (attached) - Laurel Hill and Cinco Bayou hold their Council Meetings on the second Thursday so Mayor Anderson suggested scheduling the dinners for the third Tuesday.  Everyone is to look at the city’s calendars and make sure that the third Tuesday doesn’t conflict.

Mayor Anderson stated that Sandee Launch from Okaloosa County still has not received all of the necessary information from the following cities:  Valparaiso , Cinco Bayou, and Laurel Hill.  Each of these cities representatives stated that they would look into this and make sure their information gets sent over to Sandee.  Also, Mayor Anderson has offered to attend civic meetings to discuss the one-cent referendum.  The Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce has identified 3 people to accompany Mayor Anderson to these meetings.  Sandee Launch is researching getting the information into the local newspapers.

 

NEW BUSINESS - There was no new business discussed

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REPORTS FROM CITIES:

Cinco Bayou - The Quarterly Dinner is set for next Thursday at the Fort Walton Beach Yacht Club - Social Hour starting at 6:00 p.m.

 

Crestview - The City is working on a multi-purpose building ( Civic Center ) to accommodate approximately 1000 people.  It should be ready before the end of the year.

 

Destin - attached

 

Eglin AFB - There will be several Change of Command Ceremonies in July and on August 7 there will be a Purple Heart Dedication Ceremony at the Armament Museum

 

Fort Walton Beach

-  World Changers—For the 5th year, World Changers volunteers will be in Fort Walton Beach to re-roof and paint qualifying homes from July 8th – 15th.  The City is working in partnership with Choctaw Baptist Association, Okaloosa Community Development Corp. and World Changers to bring approximately 200 youth and adult volunteers to improve substandard housing in the City.

-  Work has begun on a water transmission main which will transport water from the Golf Club to the downtown water distribution zone.  The new transmission main will provide much needed redundancy in the City’s ability to provide water between the Golf Club area and the downtown zone.  The transmission main will start at the Golf Club, move down Denton Boulevard , along Mayflower Ave. , Justin St. , Lang Road , and Russell Blvd. and tie into the existing system at Beal Parkway after going under Cinco Bayou.

-  The City has received a $150,000 Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant for Liza Jackson Park.  The grant funding will be used for fill/sod, irrigation, playground equipment and boat trailer parking.

-  Friday Night Flicks (Outdoor Movies)—Each Friday night at 8:30 p.m. during July and August (July 7 – August 25), the City of FWB, in partnership with Petermann Audio/Visual, will present Friday Night Flicks at the Fort Walton Landing.  For a movie listing, call 833-9575.

-  Kids Day at the Fort Walton Landing—On Thursday, July 20th, the City will present Kids Day at the Fort Walton Landing, a fun and educational interactive event from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.   For information, call 833-9575.

-  The City has hired a new Public Information Officer.

 

Hurlburt Field - No one from Hurlburt Field was present

 

Laurel Hill - The City of Laurel Hill is working with Okaloosa County on a North County PAWS Center

 

Mary Esther - The City of Mary Esther is going into Budget Meetings in July

 

Niceville  - No one from Niceville was present

 

Okaloosa County - Okaloosa County is busy in their budget process

 

Shalimar

-  The Starbucks process is moving forward - the Commission will meet tomorrow to discuss the Planning and Zoning Board’s recommendation.

-  Java Jo’z is now under construction.  They purchased their permit back in November, 2005.

-  The Shalimar Yacht Basin will be one of the stops for Boat Week (August 12-19)

-  Waiting on completion on the forced sewer main that was installed by Okaloosa County

-  A “exclusive and private banking” bank ( Suite 100 ) just opened across from the post office in the old Designs and Accessories building

-  Shalimar received a stipend from the FLOC to assist in the cost of sending an elected official to the Annual Conference

 

Valparaiso

-  The City has received a grant for their library

-  The Sales Tax information has been submitted to Okaloosa County

-  The cable TV will be upgraded to fiberoptic

-  The bathroom at Lincoln Park will be fixed because the existing building has settled

-  Valparaiso will be going out for sanitation bids
